Daily Calorie Needs Calculator

Losing weight is just simple math. A pound of fat is equal to 3,500 calories. If you want to loose two (2) pounds per week you simply need to determine the number of calories your body needs each week and then lower that amount by 7,000 calories per week or 1,000 calories a day. The number of calories your body needs in a day is known as your active metabolic rate (AMR). Your AMR consists of your basal Metabolic rate times your Daily Activity plus your Exercise calories burned. The formula looks like this:

BMR x Daily Activity + Exercise Calories = Active Metabolic Rate (AMR)

Your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the number of calories your body burns in a when operating at absolute minimum capacity. Fill in the fields below to figure your BMR.

Weight:   Pounds
Height:   Inches (Inches Chart)
Age:   Years
Your BMR:

The next step in determining your daily calorie usage is how physically active you are on a daily basis. Choose one that best describes you:

Sedentary A desk job or a job that requires very little physical activity BMR x 1.1
Light Walk around half the day (doctors, stay at home moms, salespeople, etc.) BMR x 1.2
Moderate On the move all day (gardeners, mail carriers, etc.) BMR x 1.3
High On the move and significant labor (mover, construction, etc.)   BMR x 1.4

Now that you know the number of calories your body uses daily based on your age, height, weight, and basic daily activity all you need to add now is the calories you burn during your workouts. An easy way to accurately calculate your workout calories is with a heart rate monitor. Most heart rate monitors will allow you to enter your height, weight, and age and then give an accurate number of the calories you burn during your workout. Most health club treadmills and elliptical machines do not give accurate measure of your calories burned since they are not constantly tracking your heart rate.
